Apple is releasing its most awaited iOS 18 this September. Since the public beta version is available for download some months after the announcement at WWDC, these 7GB updates gave us a hint of most of the features. Here are some of the major features that we will be experiencing in iOS 18.
Eye Tracking: Apple is bringing eye tracking features from its Vision OS to iOS devices. The iPhone now uses on-device machine learning and the front camera to learn the movement of your iris. By training Eye tracking first, we can then move the cursor through our eyes. This futuristic feature will be revolutionary, but the accuracy of such a feature will be questionable.
Home Screen: Home screen customization was something iOS users had less control over. Now Apple users can move icons on the Home Screen wherever they want. Also, the looks and colors of these icons can be changed. Also, the opacity of the wallpaper can be changed. This whole customization may make the iPhone less iPhony and quite like Android. However, extra customization is always a good thing to consider.
Lock Screen: Unlike past now iPhone users can open any control or feature from the home screen without unlocing the phone. Now one can replace the camera and torch with any app, feature of his/her choice.
Lock & hide apps:Â Just by tapping app and holding one can choose to lock and also hide the app by using personal face id. Hiding app is more a nightmare for iPhone users with iOS 18. Going through the hidden folder and using face id one can see hidden apps. Now relying on third party app is not needed to lock and hide the apps.
New Calculator: The most amazing feature of iOS 18 can be called as the new calculator. One of the most exciting new features of the Calculator app is auto calculation. To access it, open Calculator and tap the calculator icon at the bottom left. From there, select Maths Notes. In Maths Notes, you can sketch any complex equation and get the answer by adding an ‘=’ at the end. This feature initially showcased on the new iPad Pro during WWDC, is now available on the iPhone. Additionally, the app includes a scientific calculator for solving more complex equations.
Auto transcription in Notes: Now Notes on iOS devices will get smarter with auto transcript feature. Notes now support audio recording, and the audio notes can get the summary of all the audio there, mostly helpful for making meeting summaries. Also, we can highlight text in notes, use tables, add attachments, add bullet points, etc.
Password app: The password app is a new feature we can see in the upcoming iOS 18. This app helps us to manage our app and wifi password under the same roof, also this app will say if our passwords are compromised. This helps people to not use third-party unsafe apps for password management.
Flashlight Customization: The Intensity on the iPhone’s flashlight can be now customized. With the help of up and down toggle intensity of the torch can be increased and decreased. This could be one of the most used features in the iPhone.
